AVID Applications for Middle School Students

AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) Applications for middle school students are due no later than Wednesday, April 1st.  If you have any questions, please email Ms. Thomas at: thomaskm@mdusd.org


AVID is a four-year, elective class offered to students who would like to prepare for entrance into a four-year university. The curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note-taking, study skills and college/career activities. College students are in the classroom as tutors three times a week and field trips are taken to universities. Students must commit to taking notes in classes on a daily basis. Criteria taken into consideration for all applicants include: GPA, interview, citizenship, attendance, state test scores, and recommendations.

Assistance League of Diablo Valley is offering scholarships for graduating high school seniors living in Contra Costa County.

The application requirements include two letters of recommendation and a minimum 3.0 GPA. Financial need is a factor in awarding this scholarship.

Senior Ball tickets go on sale Monday
 
Senior Ball tickets go on sale Mon., March 30 and will be for sale until Thurs., Apr. 16. 

Tickets cost $105 with ASB sticker or $110 without ASB sticker. Permission slips will be online and in SSN on Mon., Mar. 30. You can purchase your ticket online and at the Treasurer's office. 

Orchestra Performance Tour Farewell Concert
 
The College Park Orchestras have an amazing repertoire prepared for their performance tour to Florida in April. 

Join us on Tues., Mar. 31 at 7:00pm in the CPHS multi-use room for a delightful evening of classical and modern pieces performed by our award-winning symphony and string orchestras. The program includes classical and modern pieces from Holst, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Brian Balmages, Robert S. Frost, M. Ippolitov-Ivanov , Gioachino Rossini, Edward Elgar, and more ...

Hello to all of you artistic young adults. Our school literary magazine, Youthink, is having a cover art contest. The winner will get to have his or her art featured on the cover of the magazine.

Outdoor Ed counselors need for Valhalla Elementary
 
Students wanting to be 5th-grade camp counselors for Valhalla Elementary School should pick up an application in SSN or from Ms. Welsh in the Career Center. 

You must be 16 years old to apply and applications are due back to Valhalla Elementary on April 1.

ACT/SAT Essay Workshop on April 2
 
Need help figuring out how to write your test essays? We have a FREE workshop on Thurs., Apr. 2 from 2:45-4:00pm.

Space is limited so sign up ASAP. Email Mrs. Welsh at welshs@mdusd.org to reserve your spot. There will also be a free Personal Statement workshop after school on Thurs., April 30.

Make your CPHS PTSA 2014-2015 Honorary Service Award Nominations by Apr. 3
 
Do you know someone who goes the extra mile to make a difference for our students, school or community? Each year the CPHS PTSA celebrates the founding of the PTA by presenting those who help the youth of their community with an Honorary Service Award.
 
CPHS parents, teachers, school employees, students and community members or organizations can be recommended.  Students, parents, & staff are encouraged to make nominations! Awards will be presented at the Founders Night Award Ceremony in May.

Lost & Found from Junior Prom
 
If you went to the Junior Prom and left something behind, or lost something, please see Maggie Bowker in SSN to claim it!  We have a pair of shoes, some socks. If they are not claimed we will donate them to the Goodwill.

Attention all seniors! Get your Grad Nite tickets now
 
The current ticket price is $110. Tickets can purchased online by visiting the Athletic Boosters website or pasting this link in your browser: https://cphsathleticboosters.revtrak.net/tek9.asp?pg=products&grp=6. Tickets have been on sale all year and increase $5 the first day of each month.

Without giving away too many surprises, it is a non-stop party of food, indoor and out games, music, dancing, casino gambling, spa treatments, bowling, prizes and entertainment!

Permission slips can be found outside the Treasurer's office and can be left in the Grad Nite basket in Student Services North; a ticket and permission slip are both necessary to attend.

Apply for the College Park Memorial scholarship by Apr. 17
 
The College Park Memorial Scholarship was implemented in April 2011 to remember Mary Lee, College Park High School Registrar. Mrs. Lee passed away on March 22, 2011. She worked in the Mount Diablo Unified School District for 15 years. She will be remembered for her enthusiastic willingness to help anyone in need. Her kindness and twinkling smile are legendary. 
 
The scholarship is specifically targeted at students who have exhibited determination and persistence in the face of adversity. Click here to download an application. The deadline for application submission is Fri., Apr. 17.

PTSA scholarship applications now available
 
The 2015 College Park PTSA scholarship application is now available. The PTSA will be awarding up to ten $750 scholarships to graduating seniors who are going on to a two- or four-year college, vocational, or technical school.
 
Applicants are evaluated based on their demonstration of personal success and the ability and desire to share their talents with others to make a difference in their community through school or community service. Scholarship recipients must meet a minimum academic standard.

Scholarship for female athletes
 
Weis Family Scholarship applications are now being accepted (click here to download instructions) until Fri., Apr. 17.  Turn in the application to the Career Center or to Mrs. Frank in SSS. 

Requirements to apply: 
  • female
  • CPHS senior
  • scholar athlete
  • participated in community service
This scholarship award is $2000.

Boys' lacrosse yard sale coming soon
 
Coming soon ... CPHS boys' lacrosse is holding its 2nd annual yard sale. As you begin to think about spring cleaning, please set aside any items that you would like to donate to this great cause. This was our biggest fundraiser last year and we are hoping to exceed last year's sales. 
 
The yard sale will take place Thurs., Apr. 30, Fri., May 1 & Sat., May 2. Donations will be accepted the week prior and collection sites will be announced soon.
 

Thanks to all the families who made this event such a huge success last year and we thank you in advance for making this year even better!

Memory Wall Tile order window now open for 2015
 
Have you seen the Memory Wall located just outside the College Park library? It's a beautiful display of custom engraved tiles documenting many of the people and activities that have made our school so special.

A unique way to memorialize your student's accomplishments is to purchase a Memory Tile with your personalized sentiment.

The deadline for ordering Memory Tiles this year is Fri., June 12. Tiles are either $50 and $55 and all proceeds benefit Grad Nite 2015. Order form is available by clicking  here. Pay online at the CPHS Boosters webstore or you can send a check (address on order form).
