Yondr

Dear CPHS Students and Parents,

We are excited to announce that College Park High School will be a phone-free, earbud-free, and smartwatch-free learning environment through the use of Yondr. This system, implemented in over 1,000 schools across 21 countries, and will be implemented at all of the high schools in MDUSD beginning as early as this summer. Yondr has been proven to enhance student engagement, learning outcomes and academic success.

At College Park High School, Yondr we anticipate Yondr benefiting students at our site in the following areas that have been affected by the use of electronics:

  • Decreasing digital hazing and cyberbullying

  • Increased student engagement in classes

  • Improved grades and academic outcomes

  • Improved social development

While we recognize the value of cell phones, they also pose significant distractions that impact learning, social interactions, and overall student well-being. Research and data from schools in our district and neighboring districts confirm that such devices contribute to decreased academic performance, reduced classroom focus, and increased disciplinary issues. Additionally, studies show that phone distractions hinder productivity in both educational and workplace settings.

A recent Yondr survey of over 900 partner schools highlighted the benefits of learning environments free from these devices:

  • 65% saw an improvement in academic performance

  • 74% reported better student behavior

  • 83% noted increased classroom engagement

This will take effect on the first day of Summer School. We appreciate your support in fostering an optimal learning environment for our students. As with any new policy, we understand that adjustments may be necessary, and we will evaluate and refine procedures as needed.

Thank you for partnering with us in prioritizing student learning and success.
